Playing The Music You Love
With A Smooth Jazz Twist
I’m Kevin Curtis, and I fell in love with music as a way to make life more memorable through my mother. She introduced me to the jazz greats, helped me get my start playing guitar at age 12, and the rest is history. Through the hundreds of events, I’ve performed at, I’ve discovered that
event planning is both an art and a science. The ultimate goal is to bring people together and create an experience they will never forget.
Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done, and many events end up falling flat. Finding the right balance between all the various aspects of planning – the right venue, the right food, and yes, the right music – can make or break these once-in-a-lifetime experiences. That’s why I’m a performer – because you deserve to have a pleasantly memorable experience that you and your guests will talk about for years to come.
As a jazz guitarist, I love enhancing the atmosphere of events of all sizes. I’ve helped plan city and private events in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and I’ve also attended hundreds of events. I know what it feels like to plan events both large and small and worry about how it will all come together. To me, performing music is more than just solving the musical aspect of your event.
As a performer, I wanted something unique and I’ve always loved smooth jazz. Artists like Boney James, George Benson Larry Carlton and I thought… not only could I play smooth jazz hits, but also pop tunes etc., instrumentally, with my flair. It works great as I read your crowd and keep it where people can sit and talk or kick it up and let them dance some too.
Imagine this: it’s the day of your event. You’ve crossed your T’s and dotted your I’s. The nerves start to kick in before your guests arrive. At the planned time, you hear the sound of a relaxing jazz guitar floating into the room. Your fears start to subside, and guests start to enter the space.
The rest of the event proceeds without a hitch, and with a delightful musical accompaniment. At the end of the night, you receive multiple compliments from your guests – some of them asking who that guitarist was, and “when can we do this again?”

Grammy Award Nomination Jazz Singer Breggett Rideau
For New Orleans native, Breggett Rideau, her first CD Release “the opportune time…” afforded her the chance to do something she loves to do, which is sing and tell the story of her life through her extraordinary voice to appease the appetite of jazz enthusiasts and lovers of real, live music. This critically acclaimed songstress has defined an amazing legacy and has been a trailblazer throughout the DFW metroplex when it comes to preserving the rich, cultural heritage of traditional jazz music. According to The Dallas Morning News, “Ms. Rideau is one artist who’s worth searching out. With her deep, resonant voice and her total command of jazz and soul, she’s one of the area’s most promising singers.”
With her first CD release, “the opportune time…,” back in 2003, Breggett Rideau has garnered critical acclaim not only from local publications and internet sources, but also from international institutions. By the invitation of Dr. Gene Cho, Ph.D. Regents Professor, University of North Texas and Hang Zhou Conservatory, Breggett has performed and lectured at Shanghai Conservatory, Shanghai, China in the spring of 2005. She has made history as the first woman of color/jazz artist from the United States to attend. Breggett is one artist who has accepted her true gift and is committed to releasing the power of music to live audiences all over the world and even back here in the great state of Texas. Her resume has continued to be filled with onstage opportunities coupled with dynamic collaborations from as far off as Paris, France to the forever thriving stages of Dallas, TX.
As a vocalist, her music stints have encompassed sharing the stage with Wynton Marsalis and Marcus Miller; headlining a night of elegance tribute to Gordon Parks at The Dallas Museum of Art; earning her right as a distinguished Grammy voter, an honor that recognizes the ‘best of the best’ in the world of music; and even continuing her legendary circuit right next door at The Ritz Carlton, The Crescent Club, and Sandaga Jazz; Breggett Rideau is primed and poised to take this city by storm by building a following, a self-sustaining legacy, of jazz enthusiasts and music phenoms that just can’t get enough of the entertainment value she brings to every stage she takes command of and rightfully owns. Then on July 31, 2008, Breggett Rideau graced the stage and performed live at The House of Blues for the release of the next chapter of her life, the debut of ‘More’. With a standing room only electrifying performance, that left people begging for more, Breggett has set her sight on bringing just that...”MORE”. “More” received a 1st round Grammy Award Nomination of “BEST JAZZ VOCAL ALBUM” and has placed a thankful smile in Breggett’s heart.

JJ the DJ
Jason Johnson aka JJ The DJ has been in the DJ world over 15 years with most of those years in the state of Texas. JJ has loved music ever since he was a baby and never shied away from attention. When he was just 6 years old, he along with his siblings in a little town called Greenville, TX. formed a hip-hop group called Final Quest. JJ was the youngest of the group but always seem to steal the spotlight. His love for music continued as he pursued radio broadcasting and is a graduate of the American Broadcasting School in Arlington, TX. He then went on to work for 106.1 Kiss FM along with a few of the on-air personalities including Kidd Kraddick in the Morning, Billy The Kid and Junior In-the-mix. The passion to become a DJ stemmed from the 2 years of working at the radio station. JJ has become a very
popular DJ in the DFW area because of his style of MC.
“This isn’t a job for me! This is a lifestyle and I love to see everyone having a good time. When asked what kind of music do I play, I laugh and tell them I wouldn’t be a good DJ if I didn’t have a taste of all kinds of music. I play to the crowd and not myself. I am an entertainer and love to be in the crowd making them move to my music. I have seen my fair share of tough crowds at the beginning of my shows, but I find what vibration makes them move in their seats and then that’s when their bodies won’t let them sit still.”
JJ has been the DJ for quite a few events like 5k runs, school dances and events, pool parties, Gaylord Texan, restaurants, karaoke, weddings and just recently named the official DJ/MC for the Junior National Hereford Expos. “Thank you so much for the
opportunity to be the DJ for your special event.”
